This Privacy Policy describes how pricedog.app (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our website and services (the “Service”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

By using our Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Who We Are

2. What Data We Collect

We only collect data necessary to operate the Service effectively and securely:

2a. Price Alerts Without an Account ("paste a link")

You can paste a product link on our site and enter only your email address to get price alerts. When you do this, we store:

• your email address,
• the product URL you pasted,
• a record of your consent (the time you ticked the consent box), and
• two random links (one to confirm, one to unsubscribe) and the time of the request.

We then send you one email asking you to confirm. Nothing is tracked and no price check is run until you click the confirmation link.

• Not confirmed: the request is deleted automatically, within 3 days at the latest (the confirmation link is valid for 24 hours; a daily clean-up job then deletes unconfirmed requests older than 2 days). You can also delete it at once with the link in that email.
• Confirmed: we create a PriceDog account for your email address (without a password) and subscribe you to price alerts for that product, the same as any other price alert. The request record (email, product URL, consent time) is kept as long as that account exists and is deleted together with the account (including any request stored under the same email address). You can sign in later by requesting a password reset or by signing in with Google using the same email.
• Unsubscribing: every price-alert email for such a subscription contains a one-click unsubscribe link, which stops alerts for that product. To delete your account and data, email us (Section 7).
• We use this email address only for the price alerts you asked for and for account and service messages. We send no marketing emails unless you separately consent to them.

2b. Requests From Shop Owners

If you send a request through the "For shop owners" page, we store the shop domain, your contact email, your message, a confirmation link and the time of the request, only to handle that request (a confirmed opt-out request is kept as the record of why a shop is not listed). Unconfirmed requests are deleted automatically after 2 days. We do not store your IP address for this form. To have a confirmed request deleted, email us (Section 7).

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:

• Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): To provide the Service to you.
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): For tax, billing, and compliance purposes.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): To prevent abuse and improve service.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): For price alerts requested without an account (Section 2a), and for optional features like marketing emails or non-essential cookies.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Provide and maintain your account and subscription.
• Track product prices you request.
• Send you relevant email notifications (e.g. price alerts, account updates).
• Improve our Service through aggregated analytics.
• Comply with legal and tax obligations.

We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising purposes.

5. Data Sharing

We only share data with trusted third parties who help us operate our Service:

• Payment processor: Stripe (payment data)
• Email provider: AWS SES
• Cloud hosting provider: Hetzner
• Analytics tools: Posthog

All providers are GDPR-compliant and data is hosted in the EU or protected under appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only as long as needed to:

• Maintain your account and fulfill our services.
• Comply with legal obligations (e.g. billing records for up to 10 years).
• Prevent fraud or abuse.

You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time (see Section 8).

7. Your Rights (Under GDPR)

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request deletion (“right to be forgotten”).
• Restrict processing in certain circumstances.
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
• Port your data to another provider.
• Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. for marketing).

8. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including:

• HTTPS encryption
• Password hashing
• Role-based access control
• Regular software updates

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Transfers

If any of our service providers are outside the EU/EEA, we ensure that appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place to protect your personal data in compliance with GDPR.

10. Cookies

We use cookies to maintain your session, analyze traffic, and improve the Service. Essential cookies are required to operate the site. Optional cookies (if used) will only be activated with your consent.
